Because of industrial farming where chickens are reared in vast numbers and each life is worth so little. Because of subsidies. Because it costs so little to trash the planet and much more to protect it. But mostly because the chicken industry is vast while VFC is just starting out. One of our key aims is to get the price down so it has parity with meat. Until then, thank you for supporting us and helping us grow.
All farming has an impact but the amount of crops fed to farmed animals far outweighs the amount that people could eat. Meat production is fundamentally wasteful. Far fewer calories are returned in meat, milk and eggs than are fed to the animals in crops. And when you waste crops, you waste land, and when you do that you decimate wild spaces and wildlife. Research shows that almost all plant foods are better for the planet than almost all animal-based foods.
It’s not the taste of chicken we object to. It’s the industrial farming, slaughterhouses, climate impact, pollution, forest destruction and loss of wildlife associated with it. It tastes just fine.
We call it Vegan Fried Chick*n because it tastes like chicken but is 100% vegan. This helps people know what they are buying, and how to cook and serve it. As for the word “meat”, we use it in the same way people talk about the flesh of fruits or vegetables when they mean the soft edible parts. But there’s no need to get bogged down in semantics. VFC tastes great and is kinder to animals and planet. Call it whatever you like. But you should definitely try it.
We use as much paper-based packaging as possible which is sustainable, renewable and recyclable. Where necessary, we also use a small amount of plastic – it’s lightweight and no bigger than it must be. We are currently working hard on sourcing recyclable plastic for our packaging.
VFC can be cooked in the oven, air-fryer, deep-fried or pan-fried. For full cooking instructions, please look at the individual product page or on-pack instructions.
It’s made from wheat protein wrapped in a crispy southern-fried corn flake coating. To see the full ingredients and nutritional information, please see our Products page.
VFC is available to buy in the Netherlands, Spain, Iceland, Finland and Belgium. Take a look at our Stockists page to see what supermarkets you can find VFC in, in your country.
Be the first to hear about our plans, products and the date the revolution begins (shhh). We never spam because spam’s not vegan.
